Choosing the Perfect Flooring for Every Room in Your Home

Selecting the right flooring for each room in your home can significantly impact the overall look, feel, and functionality of your space. Here’s a guide to help you choose the perfect flooring for every room in your home:

Living Room: Hardwood vs Carpet - The living room is often the heart of the home, where families gather and entertain guests. Hardwood flooring is a popular choice due to its durability and timeless appeal. Alternatively, carpet can add warmth and comfort, especially in homes with young children.

Kitchen: Vinyl vs Tile - Kitchens are high-traffic areas prone to spills and stains, making vinyl and tile excellent choices. Both options are easy to clean and maintain, with vinyl offering a softer underfoot feel and tile providing a more traditional and elegant look.

Bathroom: Tile vs Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) - Bathrooms require flooring that can withstand moisture. Tile is a classic choice that is waterproof and comes in a variety of styles. Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is also becoming popular in bathrooms, as it offers the look of hardwood with the durability and water resistance of vinyl. [There is a noted difference, however, between “waterproof” and “water resistance,” and therefore we more strongly recommend tile in this setting if one’s budget allows.]

Bedroom: Carpet vs Hardwood - For bedrooms, comfort is key. Carpet provides a soft, cozy surface that’s perfect for bare feet. Hardwood is another popular choice, offering a clean and elegant look that can be enhanced with area rugs for added comfort - while still keeping your feet cozy on cool mornings!

Basement: Engineered Hardwood vs LVP vs Carpet - Basements can be tricky due to potential moisture issues. This is why at CSM we go the extra mile of moisture-testing every slab on which we install flooring, and we also offer moisture mitigation to protect the longevity of your floor. In these cases, you almost can’t go wrong - engineered hardwood is a durable and stable choice, while LVP offers great moisture resistance and is available in styles that mimic natural wood or stone. Some clients prefer carpeted floors in their basement, which, again, with the right moisture protection is also a fine choice.

By considering each room's unique needs, you can select flooring that not only looks great but also performs and stands the test of time.
